LET US WIPE OUT FACTIONALISM AND STRENGTHEN THE UNITY AND COHESION OF THE REVOLUTIONARY RANKS

Treatise Published in Pamphlet Form May 10, 1933

The great leader tells of the urgent task of purging factionalists from the revolutionary ranks and completely eliminating factionalism. The factionalists did much harm to the communist movement and anti-Japanese national-liberation struggle. The factionalists undermined the unity and cohesion of the revolutionary ranks and obstructed advancement of the revolution and armed struggle against the Japanese band of robbers.

He goes on to detail the crimes of the factionalists which resulted in bitter failures and sacrifices in the communist movement. One of their gravest crimes was that they split and wrecked the Korean Communist Party. They also divided and wrecked mass organizations that were in the initial stage of formation. After the dissolution of the KCP they continued their despicable sectarian feud in Manchuria creating great difficulties in the work of rebuilding the party.

The struggle against factionalism should be organized and unfolded in close combination with the strengthening of the revolutionary ranks. The communist ranks must be build up and strengthened to conduct the struggle for the liquidation of factionalism more successfully. He says that the work of eliminating factionalism is a complicated and serious struggle that connot be finished in a short time.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

"Factionalism is a product of bourgeois and petty-bourgeois ideologies, particularly of self-heroizing, fame-seeking and careerism; it has nothing in common with the revolutionary ideas of the working class"

"No counter-revolutionary ideology can seep into the minds of those who have a correct understanding of the objectives and justness of the revolutionary struggle and an attitude faithful to the revolutionary cause to the end."

ON THE TASKS FOR IMPROVING THE WORK OF THE YOUNG COMMUNIST LEAGUE

Speech Delivered at the Meeting of the Workers of the Young Communist League Held in Wangqing March 27, 1933

In the year since the formation of the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army many heavy political and military blows had been dealt to the Japanese imperialist aggressors. The Japanese made frantic efforts to defeat the guerrilla army and Kim Il Sung called for an increase in ideological awareness to the broader masses.

The great leader rightly leveled criticism against the Young Communist League as having many shortcomings such as not actively recruiting all who were eligible for membership and do not properly train young people. He provided guidance to the YCL and requested that they expand and consolidate their organizations. The YCL was being too selective in recruiting and he accused them of the "Leftist" tendency towards closed-doorism. Although he also warned them against indiscriminate recruiting without proper political education and class awareness.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

"The communist work attitude consists in loving and respecting the masses at all times, working devotedly for their interests and sharing life and death, joys and sorrows with them. this is precisely the communist work attitude Young Communist League workers must acquire."

TO SPREAD AND DEVELOP THE ARMED STRUGGLE INTO THE HOMELAND

Speech at the Meeting of Chiefs of Underground Revolutionary Organizations and Political Workers in the Onsong Area March 11, 1933

Praising the work the revolutionaries and political leaders of the underground organizations had been doing, Kim Il Sung thanks them for their material support of the guerrilla fighters. The dastardly Japanese were continuing their horrid assault and occupation, although Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army had some successes and were continuing to accumulate arms and experience.

The success of the guerrilla army caused its ranks to grow as more and more Chinese in Manchuria were in support. The Japanese ran amok with punitive attacks due to the victories Kim and his army were scoring. To counteract, the great leader insightfully called for the expansion and consolidation of semi-guerrilla zones close to the guerrilla bases along the Tuman-gang River.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

"The guerrilla army had had no instructive experience of guerrilla warfare, and started the struggle from scratch. But in the course of battle, it acquired diverse guerrilla tactics to make large numbers of the enemy vulnerable and crush them with small forces."

"Only when we have the revolutionized masses, can we strengthen our revolutionary forces by relying on them, paralyze the ruling machines of Japanese imperialism and develop various forms of anti-Japanese struggle."

ON THE OCCASION OF FOUNDING THE ANTI-JAPANESE PEOPLE'S GUERRILLA ARMY

Speech at the Ceremony to Found the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army April 25, 1932

This speech marks the creation of the army to crush the Japanese imperialists and to achieve the historic cause of national liberation. The fascist Japanese had become more brutal and brigandish and time had come for the Korean people to either fight back or die on their knees. Kim Il Sung built on the success of the Korean Revolutionary Army, the Young Communist League, and the Anti-Japanese Youth League. Forming these organizations first, he was able to entrench the socialist ideals into the Korean people and the Chinese compatriots in order to assure a victory over the Japanese occupiers.

The great leader called for the rapid expansion of the army for it to be a true people's army, and for the use of guerrilla tactics in order that the fight be successful.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

"A high degree of revolutionary determination and infinite loyalty to the revolution are the source of the strength of the people's guerrilla army and a decisive guarantee of its triumph over Japanese imperialism."

ON ORGANIZING AND WAGING ARMED STRUGGLE AGAINST JAPANESE IMPERIALISM

Speech Delivered at the Meeting of Party and Young Communist League Cadres Held at Mingyuegou, Yanji County December 16, 1931

In this speech the Great Leader says that the time is right to urgently put together a fighting force of anti-imperialists, using the tactics and ideas from Marxist-Leninism, and to prepare for guerrilla warfare. The fascist Japanese occupiers will not leave on their own, violence must be waged against them. He calls for the creation of the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army, and for weapons to be stolen from the enemy using homemade spears and clubs.

Kim Il Sung calls for the creation of guerrilla zones in rural areas as places the army can train, and selects the mountainous area along the Tuman-gang River as the base of operations. He calls for a united front with Korean and Chinese peoples. Chinese at this time in Manchuria are also suffering at the hands of the imperialist Japanese.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

"Guerrilla warfare is, in essence, a people's warfare that presupposes the active participation of the masses. The energetic participation and support and encouragement of the people is the basic condition that guarantees the constant reinforcement of the guerrilla army and the success of guerrilla warfare. Only when there is a solid mass foundation and close ties of kinship with the masses can the guerrilla army break bottlenecks, overcome difficulties and win a final victory however protracted and arduous the struggle."

"Whether or not we can realize the historical cause of the country's restoration by organizing and waging the armed struggle and wiping out Japanese imperialism depends entirely upon how we discharge our assigned revolutionary tasks."

LET US REPUDIATE THE "LEFT" ADVENTURIST LINE AND FOLLOW THE REVOLUTIONARY ORGANIZATIONAL LINE

Speech Delivered at the Meeting of Party and Young Communist League Cadres Held at Mingyuegou, Yanji County May 20, 1931

The global depression was happening at this time and the imperialistic empire of Japan was preparing for war as a way to get out of its depression. Japan was strengthening its oppression of the Korean people, the Korean anti-imperialists were growing stronger and better organized. Learning the lessons of the failed May 30th uprising in Manchuria, brilliant leader Kim Il Sung had the foresight to hold off on a violent revolution against the Japanese. He stated the violent uprising must happen, but it also must wait until the revolutionary forces became better armed and more organized. Kim Il Sung would only lead his forces into battle when a victory could be certain.

In this speech the great leader details the reasons the Manchurian uprising failed and also the consequences to the revolution which happend because of the failure. He goes on to outline how the party can become more firmly rooted, by using cadres in every region to educate, lead, and rally the workers and peasants and laying the foundation of the revolution.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

"The most important task for the Korean communists at present is to follow out the revolutionary organizational line which makes it possible to unite the main masses of the revolution firmly and, around them, the anti-Japanese forces from all walks of life, thereby building up the whole nation into a political force."

"No revolution can be made by a few communists alone, without the active support and participation of the majority. For the masses to be involved in the revolutionary struggle and to be tuned into a strong political force, they should be armed with a revolutionary consciousness and organized in larges numbers in mass organizations."

THE PATH OF THE KOREAN REVOLUTION

Report to the Meeting of Leading Personnel of the Young Communist League and the Anti-Imperialist Youth League Held at Kalun June 30, 1930

The Period of 1910-1945 was a very difficult time in the history of Korea. The Japanese imperialists were in occupation. The young Kim Il Sung was doing everything he could to lead the revolution along the right path. He saw that the imperialists of the world were getting more and more aggressive due to the growing might of the Soviet Union. Japan was intensifying its plunder of Korea and preparing to invade the Asian Continent. Tens of thousands of Koreans had been thrown in prison by the Japanese. Key industries and resources were being plundered.

Kim Il Sung realized the importance of fighting back against the Japanese, or else all of Korean society would perish. Dock workers, textile workers, coal miners, people of all the major cities had been holding May Day strikes. However, the more resistance the Korean people showed, the more brutal the repression became. The Korean Communist Party was dissolved in 1928 and the true revolutionaries became disorganized. The brilliant Kim Il Sung started devising the correct strategy and tactics to create a popular revolution against the evil oppressors. He correctly criticized the various communist parties in Korea, such as ML Group, Tuesday Group and North Wind Association, as not setting down firm roots among the masses deep enough to overcome the occupying forces.

In this paper, Kim Il Sung stated that the two most important revolutionary tasks at that time were to fight against the Japanese imperialists and struggle to abolish feudal relations between peasants and the feudal landlords. In his brilliant foresight he also stated that after liberation and independence were won, a government must be formed to protect the interests of the workers, peasants, and the broad masses of people. The only way to defeat the Japanese imperialists is through armed struggle. Peaceful means will never be successful in winning the Korean people their independence. Imperialist aggressors will always resort to brutal violence, therefore the revolutionary forces must be armed. At this point, the great leader calls for the creation of the Korean Revolutionary Army to crush the Japanese. It was important for all anti-Japanese patriotic forces to join together against the common enemy. He also called for the creation of a new revolutionary communist party, and to learn the lessons of the failed Korean Communist Party.

MEMORABLE QUOTES

"Experience shows that in order to lead the revolution to victory, one must go among the masses of people and organize them, and solve all problems arising in the course of the revolution independently on one's own responsibility in accord with the actual conditions, instead of relying on others."

"We must not mark time after carrying out the anti-Imperialist, anti-Feudal democratic revolution, but press on with the revolution to build a socialist and communist society and, further, carry through world revolution too."
